Tuition

The IMC online graduate program is accessible and affordable for students from around the world. Tuition and fees are computed on a per credit basis. All the courses in the IMC program are three credits.

All tuition billing for the IMC graduate program is handled by WVU Extended Learning. For current costs, visit Extended Learning’s Web site at http://www.elearn.wvu.edu/registration/tuitionFees.html#grad . Scroll down until you find the listings titled Graduate Programs and then look for the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism listing. Costs listed here are per credit hour based on whether you are an (in-state) resident or a non-resident (out-of-state or international) student. Please remember that all IMC courses are equal to three credits.

Tuition and fees are subject to change. If you have questions about IMC program billing, please contact the WVU Office of Extended Learning at 1-800-2Learn2.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available for graduate students who can demonstrate financial need through the WVU Financial Aid Office.

When contacting the WVU Financial Aid Office, (304) 293-5242, ask for Janet Trump. Janet is familiar with our program and the specific needs of our students.

Employer Reimbursement

All invoices must be paid before the first day of the term, even when an employer is paying the bill. Some employers are willing to pay for a student’s tuition and fees in advance but require an invoice detailing the charges.

The employer must send a letter (on company letterhead) to WVU Extended Learning, P.O. Box 6800, Morgantown, WV, 26506.

The letter must include authorization for WVU to bill the company for the student, the last four digits of social security number, and the address where Extended Learning is to send the invoice. The letter must indicate what percentage the employer is willing to pay (e.g., 50% of invoice, 100% tuition and fees, or the dollar amount). If the employer is paying less than 100%, the student must arrange to pay the balance before the first day of the term.

This letter should accompany student registrations every term. Extended Learning views this as payment for the course(s) and forwards it to the WVU Office of Student Accounts for processing.

IMC Program Policy on West Virginia Higher Education Employee State Tuition Waivers

Employees of state-supported institutions of higher learning in the state of West Virginia are welcome to apply to the IMC program at West Virginia University. However, admission into the program for students who are eligible to receive a state tuition waiver is limited to 5% of total number of students admitted each entry term. Therefore:

  • For Summer admission, the IMC program will admit 1 student who is eligible for the state tuition waiver.
  • For Fall admission, the IMC program will admit 5 students who are eligible for the state tuition waiver.
  • For Spring admission, the IMC program will admit 3 students who are eligible for the state tuition waiver.

In order to apply as tuition-waived student, applicants are required to identify themselves as qualified to receive a state employee tuition waiver on the program application by indicating that they currently work for WVU or another institution of higher learning in West Virginia. In addition, applicants who qualify for the state waiver MUST complete all components of the application before they can be reviewed or considered for admission. This includes GRE/GMAT test score submissions.

All qualified tuition waiver students are admitted to the program (up to the limit) on a first-come, first served basis until all available seats are filled for the term. Once the limit is reached, state waiver students may be offered deferral to the next entry class.

If the next entry class is already filled, students will be able to continue application as a regular student, but will not be eligible to receive a tuition waiver if accepted into the IMC program. Any student who applies and is admitted as a regular student is not eligible to later request a tuition waiver once admitted to the program.

To inquire about the number of remaining seats available for higher education tuition waivers, please send an e-mail to Prof. Shelly Stump at Shelly.Stump@mail.wvu.edu.
